The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) recognises the important role played by parents in supporting their child’s early learning at home by working with their child to provide access to letters and numbers and a range of activities. We are really keen to work in partnership with all our families to support their children’s learning. We have a library in the nursery and we encourage children to take books home regularly to read with family members. We give the children stickers when they return the books and they can earn certificates and rewards when they fill their sticker cards. We also have a variety of learning bags which contain the resources needed for children to do specific activities with parents which will help to improve skills such as counting, matching, sorting and recognising colours. The children are really enjoying the bags and ask to take them home again and again. Parents are encouraged to record how their child is getting on with the activities on their Tapestry Learning Journal. We welcome feedback from parents about the books and activities as well as ideas and suggestions for additional resources they would like us to provide.
